Using local resources for energy = a happy earth!

The Henningsen Foods plant (Adventure Egg is a division of Henningsen Foods) located in David City, NE is using methane gas from a local landfill to fire their main boiler in place of natural gas.  The Butler Country landfill collects, compresses and sends it to the Henningsen plant through a pipeline.  The Henningsen plant then uses it to fire their boiler which is then used to generate steam and heat water and air in the dehydration porcess.  Seventy-five percent of the Henningsen plant's gas needs come from the Butler County landfill.
Methane is a by-product of solid waste disposal.  The greenhouse gas is burned to decrease pollutants and is twenty times more harmful than carbon dioxide.  There are several programs through the EPA and local organizations that can help a business use their local resources for energy and can help minimize our carbon footprint on the earth.  For more information on how to use your local resources contact your state organization.
